In 2005, Newman Foundation, Inc. realized its long-time dream of establishing an Endowed Chair in Catholic Studies through an agreement with the University of Kentucky College of Arts & Sciences. The agreement established a $1 million endowment fund financed by a generous donation of $500,000 from Dr. Carol Cottrill and Tom Rolfes combined with a match of $500,000 from the Kentucky Research Challenge Trust Fund (“Bucks for Brains”).
For the first time in Kentucky’s history, Catholic college students can take courses for credit and learn about the history, tradition and contributions of the Catholic faith at UK.
The Foundation is continuing to build upon the successful establishment of the Cottrill-Rolfes Endowed Chair in Catholic Studies by creating a new $1 Million Research Endowment to supplement the original Cottrill-Rolfes Endowed Chair in Catholic Studies. Pledges have been secured and final payment will be made on the Endowment in June 2011.
